Kelowna, BC – Prepare for a captivating musical experience with One Guitar Woman, as Sue Foley performs in support of her new solo acoustic album celebrating the female pioneers of guitar. Sue Foley returns to Kelowna for a solo show in support of her latest album One Guitar Woman at the Metro Hub on March 12, 2025, presented by Creative Okanagan.
Foley received her first Grammy nomination for Traditional Blues Album on November 8, 2024. She continues to gain recognition as one of the leading figures in the Blues, with One Guitar Woman being more than a tribute. Foley doesn’t merely cover these artists’ songs; she absorbs their style and inhabits the soul of the music. Her guitar work is so deep and natural that it seems to rise from the same roots that gave birth to the originals, while her vibrant vocals bring new life to the lyrics and make the songs her own.
Esteemed music writer Hal Horowitz notes in Rock & Blues Muse, “the often spellbinding One Guitar Woman … is an enlightening look into her remarkable talents, filtered through the lens of a more intimate expression of the blues.”
Sue Foley is an acclaimed guitarist, singer/songwriter and writer who began her professional career in her teens. She’s released thirteen albums and has garnered several awards, including Traditional Female Artist of the Year at The Blues Music Awards in Memphis four consecutive times. She was also recently honored with Guitarist of the Year and Blues Act of the Year at the 2023 Austin Music Awards, and the Lifetime Achievement/Blues with a Feeling Award at the 2024 Maple Blues Awards.
Described as having “a killer voice, an impossibly alluring blend of sex and innocence,” by the Philadelphia Inquirer and recognized for her “hot licks and tasty riffs” by Vintage Guitar Magazine, Foley’s shows are not just concerts; they are celebrations of musical depth and female empowerment. One Guitar Woman pays homage to seminal female guitarists who have influenced the course of music history, including Maybelle Carter and Sister Rosetta Tharpe.
“Playing matters,” Foley insists, inspired by strong female artists like Heart, Linda Ronstadt, and Chrissy Hynde. Her innovative approach resonates throughout her work, and her commitment to highlighting the contributions of women in music serves as an invitation for future generations of female musicians.
